Complaints on the rise

The number of complaints about teachers in England has doubled in a year - up from 412 to 827 - according to figures from the General Teaching Council for England. But complaints from members of the public has risen by 800 per cent, from 12 in the spring of 2008 to 104 by January 21. The council has had to charge teachers pound;6 more to pay for the resulting hearings, leading to union protests.
