SCOTTISH schools will receive refurbished computers donated by businesses under a new scheme. Helen Liddell, the Scottish education minister, said the initiative would improve access to computers in Scottish schools. The Royal Bank of Scotland has agreed to donate 1,000 computers a year.

But the move has angered the Scottish School Board Association, which in January will launch its own scheme to refurbish computers and sell them cheaply to schools. It plans to sell machines for Pounds 195 including software and a three-year guarantee.
