A new “best practice” award for computing teachers has been launched.

Schools are being asked to enter a short video to demonstrate a successful transformational project where the teacher and learners have built a strong learning community. Learners will have worked on an open-ended project, which they have helped plan. The teacher will show the ability to:

- inspire enthusiasm for learning;

- communicate enjoyment of computing or information systems;

- encourage collaboration in learners; and

- work in partnership with colleagues (possibly in other school departments).

The winning school will receive everything it needs to create iPhone applications, including courses on innovation and entrepreneurship and Apple hardware.

Submissions for the award, which has been put together by training provider Re-wire, IT company Adventi and Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, close on June 4. The prize will be presented at the Look to the Future conference at the university on June 11.
