Art Nouveau: nature, history, symbol, an international conference at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London SW7, June 23-25, coincides with its exhibition Art Nouveau 1890-1914. Students of design and art history, architectural and urban history welcome. Broad themes are: the use of nature within the style, its symbolic content and the urban ethnic environments in which it was created. Tel: 020 7942 2209.

Tony Knight, principal officer for music, arts and culture at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, is to be a key speaker at Arts Education 2000, organised by the London Arts Board andthe London Education Arts Partnership at Friends House, Euston Road, London NW1, June 30. Other speakers include: Rex Pogson, director of Warwickshire’s Artszone project, and Felicity Woolf, currently working with the Arts Council and QCA on developing the arts in schools. Seminar topics include: creativity in the early years; youth arts; new technologies; film education in the primary school; and artists across the curriculum.
