The Early Childhood Mathematics Group and BEAM Education are running a conference entitled Mathematics in the Early Years at King’s College London, Stamford Street, SE1, October 7. Speakers: Lesley Staggs, principal manager for under-fives, QCA; Sue Gifford, Surrey University, Roehampton; and Ruth Sharpe, University of the West of England. Workshops include: stepping stones for maths and the progression towards the early learning goals; teaching money in the early years; mathematical games; using stories, rhymes and songs; and the role of the nursery assistant.
