Training provider Stands for Education is running a course: “How to raise achievement in geography at Key stage 3: improving teaching and learning for 11 to 14-year-old geographers”. Venues: London (July 5; November 22) and Leeds (October 18). Forthcoming events include: “How to assess geography successfully and effectively at KS3”; “How to enhance the teaching and learning of geography through effective use of ICT”; and a head of geography conference. Geography serving society and environment will be the theme of the next annual conference of the Royal Geographical Society to be held at 1 Kensington Gore, London SW7, September 2-5, 2003.

The Geographical Association’s study tour of South Africa, scheduled for August 2002, has been postponed to late July 2003, but GA International Committee’s China Study Tour planned for July 26-August 10 2002 is still going ahead. The itinerary includes Beijing, Xian, the loess plateau and the Yellow River, Chongqing, a cruise through the Yangtse Gorges, Sandouping (Yangtse Dam site), Yichang and Shanghai. Led by Alison Lewis, Lincoln University, it will cost around pound;1,700.
