“Continuity and coherence: for teachers and learners” is the theme of the regional annual National Association for the Teaching of English Wales conference at Pavilion Llandrindod Wells, on July 7. TES columnist Sue Palmer will give a seminar on “Think before you write”. Other topics include “Storytelling: the Iliad in the classroom” and “Children’s books: what’s around and what’s good”.

The National Association for the Teaching of English is holding its North-east region conference at Queens College, Stockton on June 21 and its eastern region conference at Parkside Community College, Cambridge, on June 28. The poet Liz Lochhead is to speak at the first and author and TES columnist David Crystal at the second. Fee: pound;70, pound;60 members.

“Children and their texts” is the theme of the UK Reading Association’s 39th international conference at Homerton College, Cambridge, from July 11 to 13. Speakers include Beverley Naidoo, Michael Rosen, Gordon Wells and Kevin Crossley Holland. The conference will explore ways children experience texts through books, films, multimedia, popular culture and video. It will be preceded by a research conference on July 10 on culture, diversity and entitlement.
