"Globe Talking: languages, ICT and beyond" is the theme of a British Council Education and Training Group conference at the QEII Conference Centre, Westminster, London SW1, on November 13. The Language Show conference and exhibition will be held at the Novotel Hammersmith, London W6, from November 14 to 15. Topics include: the National Strategy for Languages; methods and resources for primary language teaching; training and employment for teachers; ICT in the classroom.

Speakers include representatives from the Centre for Information on Language Teaching (CILT), Nuffield Language Project and Teacher Training Agency.

The Association for Language Learning's annual Language World conference and exhibition will take place at Oxford University, from April 2-4. The conference programme on the theme "Reaching Out" will be available in winter 2003.

The Primary Languages Show organised by CILT will be held at Manchester Conference Centre, from March 12-13. Most of the costs of CILT courses abroad are funded by Comenius 2.2 grants of up to d1,500 from the British Council Education and Training Group. They include: "Professional development course for European specialist teachers of Spanish", March 28-April 10, University of Granada, Spain, d1,650; Berlin Aktuell, a course for those teaching German to learners aged 14-19 and adults, Goethe Institut Berlin, April 1-9, d1,500; "Teaching Spanish in the secondary school", May 30-June 12, University of Navarra, Pamplona, d1,650.

"More linguistic diversity in Europe" is the theme of Expolingua Berlin, the international fair for languages and cultures, November 21-23, at the Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Cultur, Berlin.
