The Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama is holding its annual conference at Bristol University, August 19-22. Sessions will include: actor Kim Hicks with All Aboard, a performance based on the diaries of passengers who sailed on the SS Great Britain; writer Pie Corbett on poetry and performance; a Shakespeare workshop with actor Andrew Hilton, and puppeteer Rod Burnett with “The Storyteller’s Art” forum. “Using drama to teach literacy in primary classrooms” is the theme of a course organised by the National Union of Teachers as part of its teacherstogether programme. Led by drama consultant Jane Holden, it will be held in Liverpool, January 8-9, with a follow-up workshop on March 30. Fee: pound;150; free to members of the National Union of Teachers (includes seminars, subsistence and VAT). Bursaries can be applied for.
