"Belonging to Europe - small nation, big issues", the annual professional training course run by Euroclio (European Standing Conference of History Teachers' Associations), will be held in Cardiff from March 29 to April 4.

Organised by the Association of History Teachers in Wales, it will explore the role history plays in socialising children; how far a state agenda and a national consensus about interpretation of the past should inform history in schools; teaching local history from the perspective of common European influences; and how the concept of interpretations is approached throughout Europe. A visit to the Museum of Welsh Life, St Fagan's, will show how reconstructions of the past can be used to develop an understanding of national heritage.
