The Design and Technology Association’s annual conference and resource exhibition will take place at Sheffield Hallam University, from July 7 to 9. It is divided into two main areas: international research; and UK education. Workshops include developing making and manufacturing skills, CADCAM, the use of ICT including interactive whiteboards, integrating electronics and communications technology, supporting pupils with special needs, and exhibitions of students’ work. New this year will be the opportunity for participants to work with practising designers.

A free workshop on smart textiles and manufacturing has been organised by fabricadabra.co.uk at EMTEX, Ashfield Business Centre, Sutton in Ashfield on May 17. Kicking off with a factory visit to Buckley Lamb, manufacturers of textile products for the medical industry, participants will look at developments in electronic textiles, micro-encapsulation, sense and react material, along with heat sensitive links.

The British Nutrition Foundation’s annual education conference will be in Leeds on June 18. It will focus on having a good understanding of nutrition in the design and development of food products and include nutrition updates and industrial case studies.
