* The Historical Association’s annual conference

on Celebrating history will be held on September 12-14 at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. Workshops will focus on history’s role in raising achievement and developing literacy and numeracy, and on using information technology. Contributors include: Michael Gorman, history and geography adviser, Wiltshire; Christine Counsell, history education lecturer, Cambridge University; and Jamie Byrom, history adviser, Devon. * The Historical Association is holding its third

Teaching history 14-19 conference on November 14 at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge. Update and methodology sessions will include: the Russian Revolution; European Reformation; 19th-century Britain; early modern Britain; raising achievement at GCSE; and using information technology. * Secondary and post-16 teachers are invited to a free course (registration pound;10) on Teaching about the Holocaust: “into the future” at Leicester University on April 24-25. Organised by Leicester’s city and county councils and subsidised by The Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust Studies, the programme includes lectures, workshops, survivor testimony, meals and teaching materials. * The London Institute of Education is running history and information technology courses for secondary teachers at 20 Bedford Way, London WC1.
