The stories in last week’s TES (September 25) suggest cognitive dissonance at the highest levels.
Idea 1: let’s do away with the National Strategies so schools can stand on their own feet. Idea 2: let’s reduce the number of senior leaders in schools.
Both these ideas come as the OECD finds that “it is government intervention, rather than market forces, that has often led to changes in teaching practice”.
My idea? Let’s try to avoid throwing the baby out with the bathwater this time.
