IN regards to your “Help” advice to a newly-qualified teacher (Friday magazine, July 14), I am sure I can’t be the only one to point out that every teacher has the right not to teach RE.

It is the only subject they re allowed to refuse to teach but the “conscience clause”, as it is often referred to, has been there since the great Butler Act of 1944.
