Most pupils at Stornoway’s Nicolson Institute - whether learners or fluent speakers - were happy with the content of this year’s Gaelic exams. The most striking feature for principal teacher Finlay Cunningham was the appearance of topical quirks, such as an article on China.
Although the papers were relatively straightforward, timetabling presented more of a challenge. Some students had to sit Gaelic for learners and German exams in quick succession, and found it difficult to shift their thinking from one language to another so quickly.
