More than two and half million British children live in some kind of step-family. Joined-Up Families is a short but highly effective animation film for adults involved in these relationships. It’s about the inevitable changes in the children’s lives and how to help make sense of what is happening to them and to the grown-ups they love, resent, hate, envy, challenge or cherish. Using a series of vivid scenarios, often flavoured with telling humour, it touches on numerous issues, from clashes of wills and parents’ own rivalries to weekend visits and new grandparents.

Joined-Up Families, with an accompanying booklet, costs pound;10 to hire from Leeds Animation Workshop, 45 Bayswater Row LS8 5LF.
