Corby is a thriving and growing town. Since 1980, when the steel-making plant closed, Corby has attracted more than 1,100 new businesses creating more than 14,000 jobs. Our pound;50 million Eurohub roadrail distribution centre is the first of its kind in the country. To date Corby has won more than pound;1.2 billion of inward investment from the private sector. Hardly the “city of ghosts defined by empty and disused spaces” described by Wendy Wallace (TES, July 16).
Unemployment in Corby is low and we have a growing number of active voluntary and community groups. Public sector staff and elected representatives believe in Corby and are working hard to make it a better place to live.
