Microsoft’s strong position in the education market with its Windows operating system and Office software suite is facing competition from the Corel Corporation which is hoping to exploit local dissatisfaction with the costs of the software giant’s licensing deals. Corel, which offers a comprehensive, range of alternatives, including the Linux operating system and WordPerfect Suite, is working through CHEST, the non-profit organisation for information and communications technology in further and higher education.
