Cameron Munro, director of the Scottish Initiative on Attendance and Absence, was letting his mind play truant during a holiday walk down New York’s Fifth Avenue when he was drawn up short by a sign outside a Presbyterian Church. A sermon billed as “Debt Free!” was to be preached by the Rev Sally Brown. Stirling University has recently appointed its distinguished education professor to be a vice-principal, but surely holy orders were not necessary for the job, though skill at debt avoidance will be.
