A South London education authority faces a huge debt after the Government refused to cover the full cost of a collapsed privatisation deal that it brokered. Atkins Education wants to pull out of its pound;100m contract to run education in Southwark. The council says it is unreasonable to expect it to find the money which would leave a pound;1.5m shortfall in its education budget.
