DOUGLAS WEIR wants the training and registration implications of ideas emanating from local authorities to be scrutinised by the General Teaching Council.
North Lanarkshire will next month debate proposals (TESS, May 28) to create new “pathway” courses covering primary 7 and secondary 1.
If the plan is agreed, Standard grade work would begin in S2 and the mixed-ability common course would be scrapped.
Stirling is considering the introduction next year of team teaching in early secondary to ensure that core skills are taught by a range of staff.
A planning document states: “All staff should develop expertise in the core skills to ensure that each teacher is perceived as a generalist and a specialist.”
