The General Teaching Council for England this week appointed a new chief executive. Keith Bartley, the deputy chief executive of Oxfordshire county council and its director for children, young people and families, will take up the pound;140,000-a-year post in March. The 53-year-old is a former English and PE teacher and school inspector. He replaces Carol Adams, who has led the organisation since its launch in 2000.
