(Photograph) - The picture in the frame is “Komposition VI”, and was painted in 1913 by Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. He painted feelings and ideas as well as his impressions of people and mountains. If you paint feelings, the colours you use are important. Teachers can get pupils to:
Look at the painting. At first it looks mainly green, but if you look carefully you can see many colours in it. Notice the way some colours stand out and come towards them. Some seem further away. How would this painting look if the colours were changed?
How many colours are there in the painting? Can the pupils give them all names? Use combined colour names such as “brownish green” or “orangey red”.
