RURAL teachers have a chance to shine - and win pound;500 - in the second year of the Countryside Awards which recognise achievements of individuals and communities around Britain.

The 2003 awards with 11 categories, including rural school teacher and village school of the year, are organised by NFU Countryside which claims 80,000 member households. Nominations, which can also come from non-members, close on April 14, with a gala presentation lunch to be held in London in mid-July.
