The Royal Observatory Greenwich is offering a nine-month Open Museum course in GCSE astronomy for adults from October 4 (Wednesdays 7-9pm or Saturdays 10.30am-12.30pm). Topics include: the Earth and Moon, solar system, stars, galaxies and observing techniques. Assessment is by practical project work (worth 25 per cent) and examination in June 2001. Lace Fiesta 2000, an Internet-based competition run by Nottingham City Council at www.lacefiesta.co.uk, invites schoolchildren and students, individually or in groups, to submit an imaginative graphic design using lace. Prizes include internet-ready multimedia PCs and judging takes place in spring 2001. Entrants without internet access can submit a design on paper.
