How do you find the best literacy software? The National Literacy Association and the software company REM think you should ask pupils themselves, so youngsters from Kent, London and Birmingham have been reviewing the latest applications in "Click on It!", a brochure packed with reviews by seven to 14-year-olds.
Reviews are refreshingly direct. Assessing a multimediaencyclopaedia, Aaron, aged 14, says: "On the Internet there's some good stuff, but loads of rubbish - this helps a lot when you're stuck."
The free brochure will be published twice a year and has already been snapped up by teachers, says Charlie Griffiths, director of the National Literacy Association.
"We were discussing the use of software in the curriculum when a colleague said: 'It's all very well us grown-ups saying that this software is brilliant, but whoever asks the children?' It was a throwaway comment, but I thought he had a valid point."
