THE Scottish Office set up a School Drug Safety Team last year, originally to review guidelines on how schools handle drug-related incidents.
In the light of HMI’s report, its remit has now been broadened to include an advisory role in drugs education.
Ken Corsar, Glasgow’s director of education, who chairs the team, has promised curriculum materials that are “comprehensive, helpful and translate into work in the classroom”.
Police chiefs believe there should be standardised drug education programmes.
But Mr Corsar warned: “It would be wrong to be too prescriptive. We will instead point to the best practice and to the best materials and hope that will be picked up.”
