Nate conference on Making Meanings

The National Association for the Teaching of English (Nate) is holding its annual conference next month. The event, with the theme of Making Meanings: English at the Heart of Learning, takes place at the Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire from July 9 to 11, and includes workshops, an exhibition, speakers and seminars. There will also be a primary day on the Saturday, when literacy consultant Pie Corbett will be the keynote speaker. Grisham resources

Publisher Hodder and Stoughton has produced a set of classroom resources to accompany the publication of John Grisham’s first book for children. Theodore Boone: Young Lawyer follows a 13-year-old who is fascinated by the law but gets mixed up in a murder case after he is asked to keep a secret. The resources look at some of the ethical dilemmas raised in the book and are made up of three-lesson modules for both key stages 2 and 3, plus assembly ideas. English teaching in the park

The London Association for the Teaching of English holds its summer conference on Saturday, July 3. Keynote speakers are Phil Jarrett, Ofsted national adviser for English, and Andrew Lambirth, reader in education at Canterbury Christ Church University. The event, at Regent’s College, Regent’s Park, London, also includes workshops on subjects including approaching unseen poetry, GCSE spoken language study and making the most of media.
