At least three councils will have no advisory service as jobs are shed across the country, the conference heard.
The north-east is the hardest hit with Moray and Aberdeenshire planning no support services and Aberdeen City aiming to reduce its staff to four. Grampian currently employs 21 advisers.
The third authority without an advisorate is East Renfrewshire. Other councils are drawing up schemes with a bare minimum of transferred staff.
The healthiest picture, delegates reported, is in Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, Fife, Borders and the three councils in Tayside.
Yvonne Orr of Highland, the advisers’ president, noted a “flattening of subject specialisms” across Scotland and wider remits for remaining staff.
