When young children learn to use scissors, they develop their motor control and their hand-eye co-ordination, but they can also have a lot of fun. Cutting Skills contains more than 40 photocopiable activities devised by experienced teachers. The techniques develop gradually from cutting to reach a specified point, then cutting straight lines (triangles and saws) and curves (plates, worms and snakes). Further challenges involve more complex objects such as cutting within shapes to make butterfly mobiles and wristwatch buckles. There are some helpful teaching points and guidance on safety. Cutting Skills by Mark and Katy Hill costs pound;9.99 from LDA.
