FURTHER ADVANCED PHYSICS. By David Brodie. John Murray pound;14.99
Bucking the trend for one-specification textbooks, this generic offering should have a long and useful life, easily able to survive future tinkering without appearing out of date. It is divided into two main sections, “Further advanced topics” and eight synoptic chapters drawing together ideas from the whole course. A large number of practice questions are included with answers to numerical questions. Aside from a single-page idiot guide (“big question”, key vocabulary and brief background) as an introduction to each chapter, this is a fairly standard A2 physics text. The traditional style and slightly cramped layout are unlikely to suit weaker students.
