The cycling proficiency test returned to England’s streets this week after concerns that children do not know enough about road safety. The Bikeability award teaches pupils how to position themselves on the road, in the hope that within five years all pupils will have passed the test. In the past 10 years, the number of trips taken by bicycle is estimated to have dropped by one-fifth.
