A novel by a nine-year-old that becomes an instant bestseller would be a marketing department’s dream today, but Daisy Ashford’s The Young Visiters, written in 1890 when she was nine, was not published until 1920. Now The Paddock community arts group’s production based on the book is at the centre of Lewes Live Literature Festival, in Daisy’s East Sussex home town.

There are performances in private homes all next week (for tickets, tel: 01273 472750) and a public show on October 30 (Pelham Arts Centre at noon; tickets, tel: 01273 685861).
