Dame Brenda Hale, appeal court judge and legal scholar, has been nominated by Bristol University Council to succeed Sir Jeremy Morse as chancellor when he retires in December.

Dame Brenda studied law at Cambridge and was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1989. In 1984 she was the first woman to be appointed to the Law Commission and she became a High Court judge in 1994.
