More than 130 pupils from across South Lanarkshire have taken part in the first ever secondary schools dance competition in the authority.

Pupils from St Andrew’s and St Bride’s High won the S1-3 category, while Calderglen High danced to victory in the S3-6 category in front of their peers, families and teachers at the event at Hamilton Town House.

The award for best choreography went to Calderside Academy’s Euphoria Dance Group, while Emma Kennedy, a Calderglen High pupil, won the prize for best individual performer.

Ten schools took part; the groups had been perfecting their routines in their extra-curricular dance clubs for weeks. The judges praised all contestants for their hard work and all pupils taking part were treated to a performance from special guest artists She, a dance troupe formed by Canadian professional dancer and choreographer Ron Bedeau.

Mr Bedeau starred in films such as Honey, Step Up 2 and Shall We Dance and is currently on the judging panel for the hit television show So You Think You Can Dance Canada.
