Principal Sarah Farley is looking forward to a bright future at Darlington college’s new pound;35 million base.
The building should be ready next summer when visitors will be greeted by a light, airy plaza-style entrance at the new site on the east of the town.
The new buildings will accommodate 10 per cent more students. It currently has 1,500 full-timers and 14,000 part-timers.
Ms Farley said: “The layout and facilities will be much better. For the first time, we will be all on one site, with the core services the public use at the front. We are expecting it to be very popular.”
The college has a booming contruction department, many of whose students have been taken on by Shepherd Construction, which is building the new facilities. The complex includes new playing fields.
Two floors of the building will be used by Teesside university and Queen Elizabeth sixth form college.
