The Design and Technology Association and the National Association of Teachers of Home Economics and Technology amalgamated on April 1 to form a single subject association for design and technology and associated areas of the curriculum. This followed a vote of more than 90 per cent of members of NATHE supporting the amalgamation with DATA.

Andrew Breckon, chief executive of DATA, says: “DATA is determined to provide a first class service to members with a regional manager, upgraded publications and a new website. In additio, from September 2000 all student teacher members will have full membership free of charge.”

Stephanie Valentine of the British Nutrition Foundation has joined DATA’s trustees.

DATA is an educational charity and subject association for design and technology. The new association has more than 8,000 members. It currently manages the Government’s CADCAM in Schools Initiative.
