Since 1997 education has become distorted as the focus gradually shifted from academic care to pastoral care, resulting in out-of-proportion attention to Every Child Matters.
Therefore, the present Government is right to develop measures to untangle the distortion that Labour added to education. This means, among other initiatives, bringing about a balance between the pastoral and academic, and a broad and balanced curriculum.
