A GREMLIN got into the text of my article “Syllabus to save the planet” (TES, December 17).

“Reducing the amount of food eaten in the homes of those who travel long distances” should read “Reducing the amount of food that travels long distances”. The intention is to reduce fossil fuel use in transporting food, hence redue carbon dioxide production and so contribute to a reduction in global warming. Anyone that doubts the long-term seriousness of this problem should read Sir John Houghton’s scientific report Global Warming: the complete briefing (CUP 1997).
