The Law Society of Scotland’s debating competition is now under way.

Schools from all over the country have been taking part in the first round of heats over the past 10 days. Sixty-four teams will qualify for the second round early next year before the regional finals and the grand final in June. The 2005-06 tournament culminated in an exciting national final in the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament in June this year, when Katie Trim and Tarni Duhre, both 15, from Dollar Academy won. The Law Society produced an educational DVD with footage from the final and distributed it to schools throughout Scotland, to encourage pupils to get involved and help teachers interested in getting a group off the ground.

The DVD is supported by free learning materials available at www.lawscot.org
