Decent is in eye of the beholder

While it is important for teachers to work in comfortable clothes (TES, June 18), it is essential to take account of issues arising out of cultural and religious diversity. It is necessary for schools to accept that words like “decent” and “acceptable” have different meanings for people according to their values and beliefs. The key is to dress appropriately.

After all, that is what one would want to teach the children so that they don’t turn up in a suit on a beach or a bikini in a board-room.
