The Western Isles will be asked next Tuesday to end six years of doubt and delay on the merger of primary and secondary schooling in the Lochs area of Lewis, a key plank in the education department’s strategy of developing “area schools” to replace run-down village schools.
The education committee last week approved the closure of three primaries and Leurbost two-year secondary after a combined pound;4.6 million school is opened at Leurbost. The full council caused controversy last October by deleting the secondary provision but the education committee has now reinstated it.
