Having expressly said I wouldn’t comment on any of the parties’ policies, I was baffled to read that a remark of mine expressing concern about the caution of all the parties when it comes to new ideas translated into being “depressed about Labour policy-making circles” in the story “Think-tank looks to next election”, (TES March 28).

I made no such comment, not least because in many ways I think the Labour party has greatly improved its policy-making capacity.
