Britain has a maritime climate - mild and wet. Begin by asking students to describe the local climate, then look at how Albert Theobald’s house solves the problem of keeping the weather out. Can they think of alternative materials that weren’t available in the 1930s? Do more recent developments, such as central heating, air conditioning, and so on, affect the materials? Ask students to design a facade for a contemporary dwelling, to be illustrated in a scale model of 1:20
