Some problems the school nurse can’t handle. Last week, it was reported that more than 50 pupils at a school in Lusikisiki, South Africa, were admitted into hospital for behaving as if they were possessed by demons.

Sonwabile Sihobo, the principal, said the mostly female pupils started singing, screaming and jumping, fell down, rolled about and fainted during prayers.

The pupils were hysterical, and said they saw a dead woman from their village who told them they should not be at school, he said.

When the ambulance arrived some students became aggressive. Some ran away, others were sedated. They woke up remembering nothing, claiming they were possessed by something evil. Doctors at the local hospital treated students for dehydration. It is unclear whether the pupils were to do a surprise algebra test.
