Anyone who enjoyed Ambrose Bierce’s satirical Devil’s Dictionary will welcome university professor Tyrell Burgess’s new Devil’s Dictionary of Education (reviewed in TES Friday magazine this week).

According to Burgess, a good school is one that “rejects bad pupils” and exclusion is “a device for transferring the difficulties of one school to another...”. The Office for Standards in Education is “not an office, without standards, and nothing to do with education”. A copy of the dictionary to the funniest new educational definition sent to the Diary email.
