Tom Devine, the ubiquitous Scottish historian, brought his stimulating brand of academic expertise to the Crieff conference. He was introduced by Tony Finn, outgoing head of St Andrew’s High in Kirkcaldy (whom we must incidentally congratulate for being poached as the new depute director of education in Fife).
Finn revealed that Devine gave up history in S2 because it was badly taught and not related to contemporary issues. “So no change there then, Tom”
quipped Finn.
