For those school-leavers struggling to get a university place through clearing last month, it may have been the last thing on their minds. But over in the US, a dating website has helpfully compiled a list of the best colleges for indulging in casual sex.

The arrestingly named service, OnlineBootyCall. com, claims the worst place to “study” is the US Military Academy at West Point, where an 85:15 ratio of men to women makes it hard for men to find someone (but is great news for women). Another low scorer is Oral Roberts University, a Christian college in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where, until 2003, a strict dress code forced men to wear button-down shirts and women to wear long skirts.

The top-ranked college for hook-ups is Arizona State University. So, while UK students are stocking up on baked beans and stockpiling washing, we know exactly what first years at Arizona State will be up to.
