You have to have a certain robustness to work in a school, but a group of teachers took it to another level by taking part in a competition marketed as one of the most difficult endurance events in the world.

The annual “Tough Guy” challenge features more than 100 obstacles over an eight mile course that costs #163;2 million to build. The hurdles to cross include underwater caverns, leaping through fire, crawling under barbed wire and braving electric shocks.

And among this year’s entrants was a team from Trent College, an independent school in Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire. The eight teachers entered the challenge to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

About 5,000 people entered this year’s event, with just over 4,000 completing the course.

Design and technology teacher Ben Ward came in a creditable 150th with a time of one hour and 40 minutes.
