School trips to France usually involve copious amounts of brie and baguettes, eaten beside the Eiffel Tower.

But five pupils at a Bristol school are planning a sponsored journey from London to Paris without ever leaving the school’s fitness suite. The John Cabot Academy pupils will run, row and cycle the 184 miles from Marble Arch in London to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris on exercise machines.

The money raised will go to Whizz-Kids, a charity which supports disabled sports.

Chris Baker, head of e-learning at John Cabot, said the event would be part of the life skills extension programme for pupils who finish their GCSEs early.
